“Craft x Tech” is an experimental and artistic project that re-examines the essence of “technology” through the sensibility embedded in Japanese craftsmanship, as well as the thought processes and skilled hands that engage with it. In collaboration with craftspeople from regions across Japan and creators from around the world, it drew out the sensibilities and aesthetics embedded deep within materials, and gave them new life in a contemporary form. More than mere preservation or reinterpretation, it was a quiet act of reexamining the values and aesthetics we needed in our time—and carrying them forward into the future.
The craft-producing districts for the second edition of Craft x Tech were from the six prefectures of the Tokai (central) region of Japan: Mino Yaki (Gifu Prefecture) Fudogama, Mino Washi (Gifu Prefecture) Warabi Paper Company, Arimatsu Narumi Shibori (Aichi Prefecture) Suzusan, Owari Shippo (Aichi Prefecture) Ando Cloisonne, Seto Sometsuke Yaki (Aichi Prefecture) Shingama, and Iga Kumihimo (Mie Prefecture) Itogo.
These regions paired up with six globally acclaimed creators— David Caon, Lanzavecchia + Wai, Bethan Laura Wood, Philippe Malouin, Eugene Kangawa (EUGENE STUDIO), and Atang Tshikare.
⽇本の⼯芸に宿る感性と、それに向き合う思考と⼿の⼒─ “tech” の本質を問い直す、実験的かつ芸術的なプロジェクト「Craft x Tech」。国内外のクリエイターと、日本各地の工芸産地の職人たちが協働し、素材の奥に潜む感性や美意識を丁寧にすくい上げ、現代のかたちとして立ち上げていく。単なる継承や再解釈ではなく、工芸という営みを通じて、我々の時代に必要な価値や美のあり方を問い直し、未来へとつないでいく。
Collaboration第二回は東海３県６産地の伝統工芸と国際的に活躍するクリエイターによるコラボレーションを実現した。参加する工芸産地は、美濃焼（岐⾩県）不動窯、美濃和紙（岐⾩県）Warabi Paper Company、有松・鳴海絞（愛知県）スズサン、尾張七宝（愛知県）安藤七宝店、瀬⼾染付焼（愛知県）眞窯、伊賀くみひも（三重県）⽷伍。そして、これらの産地と、世界中からの⾼い評価を誇る6組のクリエイター、デイヴィッド・ケオン、ランザヴェッキア+ワイ、ベサン・ローラ・ウッド、フィリップ・マルアン、寒川裕人 (ユージーン・スタジオ) 、アタン・ツィカレの６組のクリエイターがタッグを組んだ。
